Welcome to the Environmental & Sustainability Studies (EVSS) program! Please read the following orientation materials carefully.
- Orientation Packet: This packet provides information on student rights under FERPA, satisfactory GPA (Academic Standing Criteria), Mason email and email etiquette, available academic and student support services, and the academic calendar.
- Overview of the EVSS program
- This degree requires intermediate foreign language or ASL proficiency. If you took a foreign language in high school or already speak one, here are ways to get credit for it:
- Foreign Language or ASL Requirement
- Foreign Language Placement Test and Waiver Test Information (Please take a placement test or waiver test after orientation)
- American Sign Language (ASL) Placement Test and Waiver Test Information (Please take a placement test or waiver test after orientation)

- Orientation Packet: This packet provides information on student rights under FERPA, satisfactory GPA (Academic Standing Criteria), Mason email and email etiquette, available academic and student support services, and the academic calendar.
- Overview of the HDFS program
- HDFS requires intermediate foreign language or ASL proficiency. If you took a foreign language in high school or already speak one, here are ways to get credit for it:

- ASL Placement Test and Waiver Test Information (Please take a placement test or waiver test after orientation)
- If you are interested in applying for the accelerated master’s program in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education, please meet with an HDFS advisor.
No additional materials are needed for orientation in the BIS degree.
The BIS program offers pre-orientation advising.
