What work are you doing now?

I am currently working at the international headquarters of Special Olympics in Washington, D.C. I work in the Project UNIFY department as its coordinator. I have been working for Special Olympics for over five years now.

What do you like about it?

I really love my job since it allows me to contribute back to the Special Olympics Movement which has been a part of my life. I am a Special Olympics athlete and proud of it. Being an athlete and working in Project UNIFY allows me to grow the next generation of young people who believe in building a unified generation for all people of all abilities.

How did your degree in the college prepare you to do this work?

My New Century College degree was a BA in integrative studies with a concentration in social science for education. It has prepared me in many ways. One way was to understand and respect the work of my coworkers. It has also allowed me to show my skills in various projects as well as in working operations. The most important thing that my NCC degree did to prepare me for my job was to help me to be a supportive, dependable and contributing team member in the Project UNIFY department.

What advice would you give current students about developing their careers?

My advice to current NCC students is to never take things for granted. In life, you will have challenges in the work place. You have keep moving forward and always be positive, no matter the situation. Mostly importantly, clear focus equals clear outcomes.
