Kiernan is a second-year Master's student in the Interdisciplinary Studies program, concentrating in Energy and Sustainability. His research interests center around renewable energy and energy security within the US and abroad. He graduated from the University of Portland in 2012 with a double major in International Business and Spanish. After graduating he worked at several ESL schools and companies and later as an independent consultant in Taiwan, Brazil, and South Africa, before returning to the US. His current research examines the utilization of off-grid hybrid energy systems to build energy resiliency.
