Aoi Yamanaka is an academic advisor for the School of Integrative Studies (SIS). She is currently working on her doctoral degree in the higher education program. She is passionate about student affairs and student development, and her current scholarly interests focus on students’ intergroup attitudes in interracial settings, cultural leadership, and civic engagement in a diverse environment.
Aoi completed two master’s degrees in counselor education as well as in higher education and student affairs leadership at Western Michigan University. There, she served as a graduate assistant academic advisor as well as a language class instructor for three years. In addition, she has three years of experience in international education in the western Michigan and northern Virginia areas, and is actively involved in the NAFSA Association for International Educators.
