Students Lead through Service with Pop-Up Pantry

Members of the Leadership and Community Engagement Living Learning Community Noah Shoates, Gary Hooker and Caroline Dugas have assumed roles as Student Directors of Mason's Pop Up Pantry. The Pop Up Pantry provides clothes, food, toiletries and school supplies to George Mason University students, faculty and staff in need. The three students have filled a leadership gap created when the previous director Yara Mowafy graduated.

Shoates, Hooker and Dugas spent their Fall semester volunteering many hours with George Mason University's Pop Up Pantry through NCLC 295: Leadership and Community Engagement class. This class is part of the Leadership and Community Engagement LLC and allows students to live with like-minded peers interested in exploring social concerns in order to become an active part of solutions through community engagement.

Shoates, Hooker and Dugas began spending more and more time volunteering with the Pantry and wanting learn more about how they can best support their peers experiencing hunger. The Pop Up Pantry is an initiative through University Life's Office of Student Support. The Pop Up Pantry is supplied by donations from the generosity of the Mason community.
