This award is given at our degree celebration each year to graduating students who have greatly contributed to the life of the college and university. These students embody the values and teachings of the School of Integrative Studies and show the promise of using what they’ve learned to make the world a better place. Students are nominated by faculty or other students or can self-nominate when the call for nominations is made near the start of the spring semester each year.
SIS Student Peer Ambassadors are integral to the success of the School of Integrative Studies. Selected for their strong interpersonal, communication, and academic skills, Peer Ambassadors promote the School of Integrative Studies and George Mason University by leading admissions events, working with prospective students, and helping to plan engaging student events.
The Jon Sultan Writing Award was established by Jon's parents in loving memory of their son who was an integral part of the first Integrative Studies cohort in 1995. Among his many wonderful qualities, Jon was a gifted writer who was planning a career in teaching writing. This award is presented annually to recognize achievement and encourage the development of outstanding writing talent among School of Integrative Studies students.
Students are nominated by faculty based on their writing. The School of Integrative Studies is grateful to Jon Sultan's parents who established this generous award.
The Distinguished Alumni award is given to a graduate of the School of Integrative Studies who works to address contemporary social, global or environmental challenges, making a positive impact in their community.
