CHSS Professor Schrum and SIS Assoc. Professor McCarron create AR Campus Tours for Transfer Students

Higher Education Professor Kelly Schrum and Leadership Studies Associate Professor Graziella Pagliarulo McCarron co-directed an augmented reality project to help transfer students prepare for their big move to George Mason University. ADVANCE is a collaborative effort between GMU and Virginia's community colleges to create a seamless pathway for students' transfer to a four-year institution.

Their AR app was created using ARway, which will provide students with interactive GPS tracking and indoor visual positioning through a geolocation feature as they travel from point A to B. The team has focused their project on the four floors of Student Union Building (SUB) 1, which houses the offices for Mason Student Services Center, Student Health Services, Student Success Coaching, Disability Services and more. Their hope is continue mapping Fenwick Library and then the Johnson Center.

The app is funded by grants from George Mason's Office of the Provost and 4-VA@Mason, which receives funding from the state to build collaborations across institutions as well as create new technologies that promote first-generation student transfer pathways to higher education.
