Minor in Sustainability Studies

The core principle of sustainability is the desire to meet the basic material needs of the current generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

Sammy Elzoobi, 2025

Hometown: Vienna, VA

Plans after graduation: Short-term, El-zoobi will work to gain experience, while a long-term goal is to self-study mathematics and pursue a master's in an empirical discipline like economics.

Favorite George Mason memory: El-zoobi recalls trips with friends and reading assigned history books, especially books about East Asian history, among favorite memories. “And as a perfectionist, there are a couple of my own class papers for which I have a kind of lingering fondness simply because in those cases, I feel the excessive amount of time spent fussing over wording and argumentation paid off.”

Advice for future Patriots: “I urge students who face complicated situations that impact their ability to get work done to reach out to professors early and without hesitation.”

Undergrad research experience

As an undergrad, El-zoobi worded as a research assistant to Professor Sumaiya Hamdani for the Abu Salayman Center for Global Islamic Studies. “Working with Professor Hamdani has been enriching, both in my conversations with her and in the organizational and preparatory work I am tasked with completing. In connection with that work, I have helped research and choose speakers for the Center's annual lecture series.”
