SIS Updates

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Last Day to Drop a course (with 50% Tuition Refund): Tues. September 16th
  • Unrestricted Withdrawal Period (100% Tuition Liability): Wed. September 17th - Tues. September 30th
  • Selective Withdrawal Period (100% Tuition Liability): Wed. October 1st - Mon. October 27th
  • Last Day of Class: Mon. December 8th (for full semester courses, dates may differ for 7.5 week sessions)
  • Exam Period: December 10 - 17th
  • Winter Commencement: December 18th

Planning on completing your degree in December? APPLICATIONS for GRADUATION are due via Patriot Web by September 30th, 2025.

Meet Erin Dougherty, a recent SIS graduate majoring in EVSS with a concentration in Conservation & Sustainability. She currently is interning at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute with the Turtle Conservation Ecology Lab, where she helps with data management, box turtle field surveys and more.

Apply for the Residential Semester-Away Programs with SMSC

Current undergrads or recent graduates from any institution, in any major, can now apply for either of the two immersive Spring 2026 residential programs below, which take place at the prestigious National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Virginia. 

How to Apply:
All students, even George Mason University degree-seeking students, will select Non-Degree Undergraduate in the application portal.

If you are completing the form only for the purpose of applying to SMSC, remember to use the code SMSCMASON at the end of the application to waive the fee!

Interested in this Study Abroad Opportunity - but need help financing it? There are need-based scholarships specifically for this program for Mason students, ranging from $1,000-4,000 per student. The Increasing Access: Japan Scholarships applications are due by Monday, December 1st, 2025. Please email Dr. Nick Lennon for the scholarship application.
