Grad Fair and Caps & Gowns

Graduation at Mason is a traditional ceremony in which graduates and faculty wear caps and gowns.

For your convenience, The University Bookstore will sponsor a Graduation Fair, Tuesday through Thursday, March 5-7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Johnson Center Atrium (in front of the bookstore), Fairfax Campus. Purchase caps, gowns announcement, rings, and other items; have a photo taken in regalia; and pick up Commencement information all in one location.

The Science and Technology and Arlington Campus bookstores will also begin selling caps and gowns at this time. Please visit the bookstore for details.

Those who miss or are unable to attend the Graduation Fair can purchase regalia at any Mason bookstore on a first-come, first-served basis. The Science and Technology and Arlington Campus bookstores will also sell caps and gowns.

It is required that you wear the appropriate academic regalia.

2019 Cap and Gown Prices (plus tax)
Bachelor Keeper Outfit  (cap, gown, and tassel) $69.98

Each semester, Mason undergraduate students work hard to earn their degrees. Many of our students do not experience walking across the stage at graduation because they cannot afford to purchase regalia. Bachelor’s regalia was priced at $69.98 (before tax) this winter. Think of this as three tanks of gas, or an outfit the student needs for a job interview!

The Gown for Grads program collects Mason alumni’s old caps and gowns, and students in need can rent them for the day at no cost.Gowns for Grads is a lending program for low-income students or students unable to afford their own regalia for commencement. We lend students regalia and they return it after commencement.  If you are working with a student who fits these criteria, please tell them to seek out our program.  We have both master’s and bachelor’s gowns available for students this year.  Students can apply here: https://ulife.gmu.edu/students/gowns-for-grads-lending-program/.
