Colloquium Series Revived!

Dear Colleagues:

I’m pleased to announce a new (revived!) initiative—the NCC Colloquium Series. Please join me on February 8th from 3-4:30 p.m. to learn more about the scholarship of two NCC professors—Janette Kenner Muir and Cher Weixia Chen. Both of these accomplished scholars recently published books and have agreed to a joint presentation followed by a question and answer session.

This Colloquium series arises out of ongoing conversations about how to collectively strengthen our scholarly community.  On Friday, Council endorsed and committed to this colloquium series.   As an academic community, we have a responsibility to support the research of our colleagues as well as to learn from and grow alongside of each other.  Success in this new initiative would look like 100% commitment from all full-time faculty/staff to a monthly community gathering (either the faculty colloquium or the faculty meeting).

It is in this spirit that I’m asking you to attend the February 8th Colloquium presentation.  I know we have many competing responsibilities, but committing one Wednesday each month (for EITHER a faculty meeting or a colloquium presentation) is appropriate for an innovative and collaborative scholarly community such as ours.

So as you mark your calendars for the February 8th colloquium, will you please reserve May 2nd from 3:00-4:30 p.m for the second presentation in this series?  More details on both colloquia will follow.

Please let me know if you have questions or if you have suggestions for future colloquia presentations.

Most cordially,

Lisa Gring-Pemble
