Horizon Hall, #5225
Grab your lunch and join us in-person or online as we hear from Dr. Al Fuertes and Chevi Chung regarding their current research topics.
Dr. Al Fuertes is a professor in the School of Integrative Studies and is a field practitioner and consultant who specializes in community-based trauma healing as an integral component in peacebuilding and conflict transformation. He travels extensively around the world, particularly in places affected by war, armed conflict, and natural disasters. He works with government, religious, military, and community leaders, as well as NGO development workers, school administrators, teachers, youth, refugees, and internally displaced persons. Dr. Fuertes will present on "Translating Participatory Action Research (PAR) into Deliverables: Teaching, Scholarship, and Student Mentoring".
Chevi Chung is a current student in the Interdisciplinary Studies program with a concentration in Social Justice and Human Rights. "As far as I can tell, the first time that the names of Black actresses performing Shakespeare appeared on a playbill was in 1821, advertising the African Company’s Richard III in New York. A 'Miss Welsh' doubled as the Prince of Wales and Lady Ann" Joyce Green MacDonald. Chevi learned about Welsh through MacDonald's scholarship, as presented in her chapter "Actresses of Color and Shakespearean Performance: The Question of Reception" in The Cambridge Companion to Shakespeare and Race (2021). Who was Miss Welsh? What about Black female actors who played eponymous male roles in Shakespeare’s plays in the 20th and 21st centuries? She will share her emerging thesis, "Black Sheroic Couplets in Shakespeare".
