Book CoverNew Directions for Student Leadership, a new quarterly series edited by Susan Komives and Kathy Guthrie, provides current and relevant information for educators and administrators working with students of all ages to develop their leadership capacity and leader identity.

Quarterly issues are grounded in scholarship, featuring practical applications and good practices in youth and adult leadership education. The first issue includes Innovative Learning for Leadership Development, Developing Ethical Leaders, Engagement and Leadership for Social and Political Change, and Student Leadership Development through Recreation and Athletics.

This first volume in the series, titled Innovative Learning for Leadership Development, is edited by New Century College associate professor Julie Owen. Dr. Owen's chapter, "Transforming Leadership Development for Significant Learning," is included in this volume.  Also included is the chapter "Connecting to Communities: Powerful Pedagogies for Leading Social Change" co-authored by Wendy Wagner of George Washington University and Patricia Mathison, Associate Director of Social Action and Integrative Learning in New Century College at George Mason University.
