Engage with Mason Event Connects and Energizes
"We don't just benefit from 'free labor' we're also educating future advocates."

The New Century College Center for Leadership and Community Engagement partnered this semester with the Mason Sustainability Institute to promote campus/community partnerships.

The goal of Engage with Mason meetings is to welcome community leaders to campus for conversations about connecting students and faculty to local goals and initiatives. Wendy Wagner, the Director of CLCE, began the meeting with a presentation about the principles of experiential learning and values related to reciprocal campus/community partnerships.  Then participants shared their successes, challenges and new ideas in small groups.  Finally, a panel shared a variety of perspectives and fielded questions.

Materials shared at the meeting are available on the Center for Community Engagement wiki under "Community Partner Resources."

Panel members included:

  • Andrew Wingfield, Associate Professor, NCC and 2013 Fellow of Sustainability Studies
  • Cindy Smith, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, NCC and assistant director of PEREC
