Lexi Martinez is a junior Integrative Studies major, with a dual concentration in Social Justice & Human Rights and Legal Studies. She is a Spring 2025 intern with the Department of Treasury’s Internal Revenue Service bureau. The IRS's Office of the Chief Procurement Officer is vital to the agency's operations, as it oversees the acquisition of essential goods and services, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness in supporting the IRS's mission to administer the nation’s tax laws. In the IRS, Lexi gains hands-on experience in government contracting, procurement law, regulatory compliance, and even analyzing legal and policy issues related to government purchasing. The IRS has been quick to prove that this internship site is quite insightful of the complexities within administrative law and public sector procurement, providing a valuable foundation for careers in government, corporate law, or regulatory affairs. Lexi’s tasks include:
● Support the IRS Commissioner efforts related to the Strategic Operating Plan
● Assist in reviewing government contracts, identifying compliance issues, and summarizing key provisions
● Attend contract negotiation meetings, procurement briefings, and training sessions on government acquisition
Through these tasks, Lexi continues to explore the intersection of public service and law, gaining deeper insight into the diverse opportunities within the field.
