Dr. Al Fuertes, professor at SIS just returned from Rwanda facilitating a week-long psychosocial trauma healing session and workshop in Rwanda with participants coming from the DRC, Rwanda, South Sudan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Sweden, and Japan. Dr. Fuertes says that the trauma narratives shared, including their dreams and aspirations, were insightful and enlightening. The discussion was productive, engaging, contentious yet respectful. Highlighted in most of their conversations were transgenerational, multiple, and chosen trauma/chosen glory, including resilience (individual and societal), as well as the transformative impact of storytelling and storylistening against the backdrop of mass genocide, war/armed conflict, domestic violence, displacement, and natural disasters. The event was organized by the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the Protestant University of Rwanda.
