Dr. Julie Owen is awarded the 2021 Ruth Strang Research Award

School of Integrative Studies Associate Professor, Dr. Julie Owen, has been selected for the 2021 Ruth Strang Research Award by the NASPA Center for Women.

The Center for Women recognized Dr. Owen for her achievements and long-lasting commitment to leadership and higher education through her impressive research career. The Ruth Strang Research Award, sponsored by the Center for Women, recognizes a NASPA member for their outstanding contributions to the body of knowledge about womxn and gender in higher education. The award is named for Ruth May Strang (1895-1971) who was a faculty member for over 40 years at Columbia University and earned international respect for her achievements in the fields of guidance, mental health, and human development.

Dr. Owen's award is for scholarly contributions that demonstrate excellence and address topics that advance the understanding of womxn and gender in higher education, including her recently published book, We Are the Leaders We've Been Waiting For: Women and Leadership Development in College (Stylus, 2020) and her forthcoming book, Women and Leadership Development in College: A Facilitation Guide (Pigza & Owen, 2021, Stylus). The Facilitation Guide is an edited volume featuring the work of several SIS faculty including, Dr. Cher Chen, Dr. Graziella McCarron, Misty Krell, and SIS alumnae Arnele Francis, Katherine Quigley, and Rukan Said.
