Dr. Al B. Fuertes, Associate Professor, is a recipient of this year’s Outstanding Sillimanian Award (OSA) in the field of Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding. Dr. Fuertes was chosen to best exemplify Silliman’s principles of Via, Veritas, Vita (The Way, The Truth, and The Life) through excellent and distinguished performance in his field of specialization or career; social responsibility or strong commitment to what is good, right, and just; and exemplary personal life and relationships. Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Philippines is Dr. Fuertes alma matter when he was doing his undergraduate degree in Theology (magna cumlaude). Silliman University is the first American University in Asia, established by the Presbyterian Mission. Dr. Fuertes was nominated by the Chesapeake Bay Silliman Alumni Association chapter in the US. He was chosen from candidates nominated by SU Alumni chapters in the Philippines and other parts of the world.
