Abla Triki graduated from Towson University, MD with a B.A. in International Studies and a minor in Anthropology. She pursued her graduate work at George Mason University with an MA in Global Affairs and a specialization in Culture and Society. Her research interests revolve around globalization, (post)colonialism, migration studies, and freedom of movement. Her main regional focus is the Mediterranean Sea, as a border space, and North Africa, as a destination and/or transit migration hub. She is originally from Rabat, Morocco, where she completed her secondary education. (Fluent in French and Moroccan Arabic).

She is currently a first-year C.S. doctoral student at George Mason University.
