Section Information for Spring 2022

Explores contemporary factors that motivate migration across national and continental borders. Investigates national, regional, and global politics and practices that control human mobility today—from border walls to biometric technologies. While we often take national borders at face value, this course examines borders as historical and socio-political phenomena that have diverse effects on different groups of people. Students will study migration in a variety of contemporary contexts across the globe.

The course will study borders as entrenched in colonial histories, global inequalities, and racist ideas.
