Section Information for Spring 2022

Explores Protest Music from the partition of India to the Vietnam War, from the “Dark Years” of military dictatorships in Latin America to the chaotic statecraft of Sub-Saharan Africa, from South African Apartheid to the Soviet repression of the Eastern Bloc, and from the Civil Rights Movements of the United States to the Arab/Israeli conflict and the Arab Spring in the Middle East. Examining these momentous historical events through music will enable us to more deeply interrogate contemporary issues that we all face together.
