On April 16, seven CHSS faculty and staff were recognized with George Mason University Outstanding Achievement Awards, which celebrate the hard work, dedication, and achievements of Mason’s faculty and staff across several awards categories.

On Feb. 21-22, more than 4,000 students made their way through the Johnson Center’s Dewberry Hall, speaking to 240 potential employers. Over the two days, George Mason University’s Spring Career Fair 2024 gave students and alumni opportunities to further their career aspirations. The first day focused on science, technology, engineering, and math-related fields, and the second focused on business, government, and nonprofit organizations.

For more than 20 years, Char R. Miller, an associate professor at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government, has led an annual study-abroad program during January’s winter break that takes students to two of the cities that invented many of our most important political concepts: Athens and Rome.

Chris Fowler, BA Integrative Studies ‘01, works at the U.S. Department of State within the Bureau of International Security and Non-Proliferation, Office of Weapons of Mass Destruction Terrorism, where he serves as lead of its Global Initiatives team.

In the mid-1990s, Christopher Hunt Robertson transitioned from his role as a law office manager back into academia, enrolling in the Bachelor of Individualized Studies program at George Mason University. Through his studies, he honed a multidisciplinary skill set, blending business acumen with psychological insights to enhance workforce training. Reflecting on his journey, he underscores the transformative power of education and the doors opened by his GMU experience, illustrating the lifelong value of continued learning and interdisciplinary study.

The School of Integrative Studies celebrates the outstanding achievements of its faculty with nominations for the Teaching Excellence Awards by the Sterns Center. This year's IIR Nobel Laureate Report focuses on Nobel Laureates in Economics. Dr. Sandip K. Sureka and Kellie S. Wilkerson write about the crucial role of immigrant economists in the discipline.

Dr. Lisa Gilman, Professor of Folklore and English at George Mason University and IIR Faculty Affiliate, has released the Dzaleka Art Project website. The art project is a community-based collaborative project by and about the arts and artists living as refugees in the Dzaleka camp in Malawi.
