Students Establish Meal Assistance Fund

Yara El Mowafy and Jordan Bivings co-founded the Student Meal Assistance Fund in partnership with University Life, Auxiliary Services, Sodexo, the Office of Student Support and Case Management (OSSCM), and the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs.

The Student Meal Assistance Fund provides temporary assistance to "students in need" through the offer of Southside meal vouchers. A generous in-kind donation of $1000 by Sodexo established the fund.

To donate to the Student Meal Assistance Fund please contact Claire Forman (cforman@gmu.edu), Assistant Director, Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations.

If you are aware of a student in need please refer them to the OSSCM, SUB I 4100, 993-5376. Maggie Olszewska, Director of the Office of Student Support and Case Management, is coordinating the program.

Jordan Bivings is a senior in Mason's School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution and was a participant in New Century College's Cornerstones program her freshman year. Jordan led the effort to establish a precursor to the Student Meal Assistance Fund, Mason Meals, growing it out of Dr. Julie Owen's NCLC 203: Inquiry to Action Cornerstones course.
