Marlon Dortch is a native of Norfolk, Virginia and an alumnus of Norfolk State University. While studying sociology, he began to understand the many disparities that existed within various populations and formed an interest in supporting and advocating for racial, gender and sexual minorities.
During his career, he has had the opportunity to advise multiple student groups of color, serve as a founding member of a Safe Zone Ally program, and collaborate with the Women's Center to pilot the Gender Justice and Equality course to facilitate discussion of the effects of patriarchy on American society.
