May 2017 Graduation Checklist

Below is information about the May 2017 graduation process. If you intend to complete ALL of your remaining Integrative Studies degree requirements during the Spring 2017 semester, you are eligible to graduate in May 2017.

It is your responsibility to make sure that each of the graduation steps is completed. Failure to complete any of the steps will delay your graduation.

May 20, 2017
Mason Commencement in the Center for the Arts

May 20, 2017
Degree Conferral. The Registrar's Office Graduation Section will begin to review and award degrees.

June 30, 2017
All incomplete coursework, even if not being applied to the degree, must be resolved and grades posted. Any incompletes after this date make you ineligible for December 2015 graduation.

Late June 2017
Diplomas will be mailed.

Graduation Application

Submitting your Graduation Application on-line notifies the Mason Graduation Office that you expect to graduate in May 2017. The Graduation Application must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar by February 24, 2017.

  • Login to Patriot Web.
  • Click on the Student Services
  • Click on Student Records.
  • Click on Apply to Graduate.
  • Read through the Graduation Application Introduction and click continue.
  • Click Submit on the Curriculum Term Selection page. This is your most recent registration term, not your graduation application date.
  • Select your Current program (If you have two programs, complete the steps for your first program, and then repeat the entire process for the second.)
  • Choose your Graduation Date and click
  • Choose the term in which you will have completed ALL degree requirements. Students intending to walk in the May Commencement ceremony and also complete required coursework in the Summer must select Summer.
  • The next screen will display the way your name will appear on your diploma. If you would like to change your diploma name, contact the Office of the University Registrar at 703-993-2441. Click Continue.
  • Select your diploma mailing address.
  • Choose your current address or “new” to enter a new address.  If you choose” new”, carefully enter the address you want your diploma mailed to.
  • Review your address and correct if necessary.
  • Review the summary information. Report any errors or omissions immediately to graduate@gmu.edu or 703-993-2441.
  • Click Submit.

May Graduation Ceremony Information

May and August 2017 graduates are eligible to participate and walk in the Saturday May 20, 2017 Mason Commencement.   The Office of Events Management will mail ceremony information to graduates in late February 2016.  Questions about May 2016 commencement and convocations (tickets, cap and gown, ceremony dates, etc.) can be answered by visiting their website (events.gmu.edu/).  

Also, the School of Integrative Studies will be holding its Convocation ceremony on Thursday May 18, 2017 @ 10:30am in the Center for the Arts auditorium.  It is at this ceremony that your name will be read out as you walk across the stage to shake the dean’s hand.  The ceremony last approximately 90 minutes. More details will be sent to the NCC student listserv in Spring 2017.

Diplomas

Your diploma will be mailed to your diploma address (given on the on-line Graduation Application) in late June 2017. You will receive your diploma only after all of your final grades are submitted and you are cleared for graduation. The diploma will list your degree (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science), program (Integrative Studies), and the title of your Concentration.

Important Deadline

All in-progress grades (IN, IP, NR), even if they are not applicable to the degree, must be resolved within six weeks after the date of degree conferral. The absolute deadline for grades to be posted with the Registrar for May 2017 graduates is June 30, 2017. If you are unable to finish the course work during this six-week period, you must withdraw your current Graduation Application and reapply for the next scheduled graduation.
