New Century College offers courses in every semester: Fall, Spring and Summer. Courses vary each semester and fulfill different degree requirements. Below are details that do not appear in the course’s catalog description.

Spring 2012

  • NCLC 103 Human Creativity: Science and Art (6 credits). This course is only open to incoming freshmen invited to participate in Mason’s Cornerstones program.
  • NCLC 202 Public Speaking & Critical Thinking (4 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning and counts toward the English/Communication endorsement requirement for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education students.
  • NCLC 203 Inquiry to Action: Facilitating Change (6 credits). This course is only open to incoming freshmen invited to participate in Mason’s Cornerstones program.
  • NCLC 249 Digital Literacy (4 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning.
  • NCLC 309 Introduction to Childhood Studies (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only.
  • NCLC 314 Conflict, Trauma & Healing (6 credits). This learning community contains 2 credits of Experiential Learning and fulfills the Humanities endorsement requirement for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education students.
  • NCLC 333 The Nature of Mathematics (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only and counts toward the Math endorsement requirement for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education students.
  • NCLC 334 Environmental Justice (4 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning.
  • NCLC 346 Art as Social Action (4 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning and fulfills the Arts endorsement requirement for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education students.
  • NCLC 347 Gender Representations in Popular Culture (4 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning and fulfills the Humanities endorsement requirement for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education students.
  • NCLC 355 Consciousness, Meaning & Life Purpose (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only.
  • NCLC 375 People, Plants & Culture (6 credits). This learning community contains 2 credits of Experiential Learning and fulfills 6 credits of the natural science endorsement requirement for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education students.
  • NCLC 375 Conservation, Sustainability & Spirituality in Action (3 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning and fulfills the humanities endorsement requirement for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education students.
  • NCLC 375 Applied Leadership: Content & Practice (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only.
  • NCLC 375 Introduction to Legal Studies (3 credits).  This course earns Learning Community credit only.
  • NCLC 375 Strengths-based Leadership (4 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning.
  • NCLC 375 International Human Rights (3 credits).  This course earns Learning Community credit only and counts toward the Humanities endorsement requirement for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education students.

  • NCLC 395 School Through Students’ Eyes  (3 credits). This course earns only Experiential Learning credit.
  • NCLC 395 Communication, Conflict & Mediation Process (3 credits).  This course earns only Experiential Learning credit.
  • NCLC 395 Problematizing Justice  (3 credits). This course earns only Experiential Learning credit.
  • NCLC 404 Ethics & Leadership (4 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning.
  • NCLC 420 Work Effectiveness Skills (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only.
  • NCLC 422 Approaches to American Foreign Policy (4 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning and counts toward the Government elective endorsement requirement for Social Science for Education students.
  • NCLC 431 Principles of Fundraising & Resource Development (4 credits). This learning community contains 1 credit of Experiential Learning.
  • NCLC 445 Multimedia Design (5 credits). This learning community contains 2 credits of Experiential Learning.
  • NCLC 455 Consciousness & Transformation in Action (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only.
  • NCLC 475 Forgiveness & Reconciliation in Divided Communities (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only and fulfills the humanities endorsement requirement for Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education students.
  • NCLC 475 Mediation & Mysteries of the Mind (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only.
  • NCLC 475 Intuitive Reasoning (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only.
  • NCLC 475 Global Consumer Culture (3 credits). This course earns Learning Community credit only.
  • NCLC 491 Senior Capstone (3 credits). This course fulfills the synthesis general education requirement and does not count toward the Learning Community degree requirement.  Students must have earned 85 credits to enroll in this class.
  • NCLC 492 Graduation Portfolio (0 credits). This is a zero credit enrollment which allows NCC to post your Graduation Portfolio final grade (S or NC).  There is no meeting pattern.
  • NCLC 494 Sharing Language Literacy (3 credits).  This course earns only Experiential Learning credit.
