Section Information for Spring 2013
Increasingly in the United States, art and arts education are being seen as superfluous and secondary, even irrelevant to "more important" issues and subject matters. Yet it is through the arts that we, as a culture, can safely "look in the mirror" and see the many different ways in which our society is reflected and represented. The arts also provide a safe space to test out new possibilities for us regarding race, class, gender, sexuality, social institutions, the environment, etc. This 1-credit experiential learning class will involve a number of field trips to meet with local artists and view exhibits that challenge social norms and allow for new interpretations of our world to emerge.View 1 Other Section of this Course in this Semester »
