Research Hall 201
Section Information for Spring 2017
This course focuses on the methods of professional historian and prepares history majors for doing archival and historiographical research. We will also spend time getting ready for the writing of the capstone research paper in History 499. The topical focus of the course will be the history of the Appalachian Trail, America's oldest long distance National Scenic Trail. The history of the AT includes almost any subject you can imagine--public policy, race, environmental issues, class issues, questions of power, gender, crime, health, eugenics, and more. As a result, students will have no trouble finding a specific research topic. One optional hike on the AT is planned for later in the semester when the weather warms up.
